Hurricane Relief From Sandy
Midwestern Quality Movers Aid Those in Need
Hawkeye Movers Joins the Davenport Community to
Give Relief to Hurricane Victims
The Davenport Community School District believes that learning goes far beyond the classroom, and beyond our immediate school community. Together we can make a difference!
Together with partners, Hawkeye Movers (an Atlas Van Lines agent) and the Davenport Downtown Partnership, we are hosting a donation drive that will take place at many of our schools. Donations will be taken to the hardest hit areas of Long Island, Rockaway and Stanton Island. Donations will be distributed by Occupy Sandy Relief (www.occupysandy.org) who have been in the trenches with victims.
They have been in homes, tearing down dry wall to prevent continued spread of mold, assisting families with necessities, and removing debris to help victims of Super Storm Sandy, and now are ready to help families rebuild. We have included a list of the most needed donations at this time. If you are able to donate, please select an item(s) from the list and bring it to a donation drop site listed below.
Your support is greatly appreciated! The smallest things can make the biggest difference when someone has lost everything. Last week, employees from Durham Bus Services took a bus out to New Jersey with donations. While there, Mr. Wheeler gave a 6 year-old a teddy bear donated by a student from Wilson Elementary. A short time later, the mother of the girl came over and thanked Mr. Wheeler, saying that it was the first time she had seen her daughter smile in 11 days! The smallest of gestures can change the world!
